A Message from the Head of the Tigray Youth Affairs Bureau
The youth are the undeniable and irreplaceable force of change for any nation. This crucial stage of life is a time of profound physical and mental development, where innovation and creativity begin to flourish, and the very personality and identity that shape a lifetime are formed. Here at the Tigray Youth Affairs Bureau, our fundamental mission is to nurture this vital potential—to build the builders of our nation.
We are acutely aware of the bottomless challenges youths are facing. The devastating conflict in Tigray has caused deep physical, mental, economic, and social wounds. Consequently, many of our young people have been forced to flee their homes, while others grapple with the scourge of addiction, dangerous behavioral changes such as sexual violence, humiliating their parents and elders. In addition to that, they have been facing unemployment, lack of access to finance, and lack of workspace and residents, lack of good governance compound these hardships.
On the other hand there are young people who, despite the immense challenges they faced, have used the little resource they found around there, they have achieved remarkable changes in the short time. Therefore, they assure that tomorrow can and will be a better day.
Therefore, our Bureau is working diligently with all stakeholders to design and implement concrete plans and programs to help Tigray’s youth overcome these obstacles. We are committed to turning these challenges into opportunities for growth and resilience.
In the last two years collaborating with our stakeholders we are already yielding encouraging results:
Over 311,000 permanent and temporary job opportunities have been created for youth.
Over 1.1 million young people have participated in vital awareness-raising training.
Over 1.16 million have engaged in volunteer service, especially in environmental restoration and boosting agricultural productivity.
1.67 million People have been benefited from voluntary community service.
We recognize that a crisis of this complexity cannot be solved by ordinary means. That is why we are preparing a new ‘Youth Development Road Map, and comprehensive Coordination Mechanism. This initiative will ensure the creation of a transparent and accountable and responsible approach from the top down to the grassroots. We are call all stakeholders—including parents to give priority for youth and provide youth inclusive strategic plan.
